Matt and Liz Raad shares their unexpected journey to financial independence

From Zoology to Digital Empire: An Unexpected Journey to Financial Independence

How Matt & Liz Raad Pivoted From Traditional Business To Creating Multiple 7 Figures Online – And Are Teaching Thousands To Do The Same Too…

When Matt and Liz Raad first met at university, they couldn’t have been further from the world of digital entrepreneurship. Matt was struggling to create a basic computer table, and Liz, the “smart girl” who caught his eye, helped him figure it out. Little did they know this chance encounter would lead them down an unexpected path to financial independence through digital business.

“We started as zoologists, which is about as far from wealth creation as you can imagine. But it did teach us what we wanted – financial independence and location freedom.” – Matt Raad, eBusiness Institute

Watch the video below to hear how this chance meeting changed all that and set Matt & Liz on an unexpected path to wealth, freedom and fulfillment.

Breaking Free from Traditional Business Methods

Like many entrepreneurs, we initially followed a conventional path to business ownership. We purchased a small manufacturing business that could be run from the country, hoping to provide the freedom we wanted. Whilst we managed to systematise it to only require six months of work per year, we found ourselves trapped by a familiar enemy: debt.

“We were trapped by debt. You might also recognise that feeling. Maybe you’re on a really high wage but actually trapped in that wage. Whether you enjoy your job or not, there’s that feeling of unfulfillment.”

Our early business ventures taught us valuable lessons about what we didn’t want: massive debt, tight cash flow, physical inventory management, and being “enslaved by the banks.” These challenges pushed us to seek alternative approaches to wealth creation.

Our Pivotal Moment: Discovering a New Online Business Model

A chance meeting with successful entrepreneurs opened our eyes to a different way of doing business. Around the same time, we discovered Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad Poor Dad,” which helped us understand the fundamental difference between being self-employed and being a true business owner or investor.

“We saw people with these business models where they were working two, three days a week and making half a million dollars, a million dollars a year. We’re just going, ‘What? Is this even possible?'”

Transforming Our Business Acquisition Skills into Buying and Selling Online Businesses

The real breakthrough came when we realised we could apply our business acquisition and renovation skills to digital assets. We purchased our first website back in 2008. Since then, valuations of online businesses have gone up. They are well-respected to the point where they’re even more valuable now than bricks and mortar businesses.

“When we bought that first site, it was mind-blowing. No inventory whatsoever, making money just off ads and affiliate offers. Within 24 hours, we were making money in America. No borders, no putting stuff on a boat and sending it across the ocean.”

What you might find inspiring about our story is that neither of us started with technical expertise. Matt had failed English at school and wasn’t particularly good at technology. Yet these perceived weaknesses became the foundation of our success in creating content and building digital assets.

How We Teach A New Approach to Online Wealth Creation

Today, there are billions of dollars being made online. And in this world where real estate is just out of reach of most people, we need to find assets that are small, that we can afford, that we don’t have to go into debt for, that we can then build up and grow as an asset for ourselves, for our families, and that generate high cash flow.

“It’s super hard now to save your way to wealth. Virtually impossible. What you’ve got to do is build cash flow machines that can be leveraged up.” – Liz Raad, eBusiness Institute

So, today, we advocate for a different approach to building wealth:

  • Start small without taking on massive debt
  • Focus on digital assets that can be grown over time
  • Prioritise cash flow over traditional asset accumulation
  • Learn and earn simultaneously

“If you’ve got a phone, you can start a business and make money. Gone are the days where we need to borrow millions of dollars to buy real estate or traditional bricks and mortar. Learn how to start out under 50 grand and build it up into something that’s worth seven figures.”

Our journey from struggling with traditional business models to mastering digital entrepreneurship demonstrates that success doesn’t require massive startup capital or technical expertise – just the willingness to learn and adapt to new opportunities in the digital economy.

Today, our passion is teaching others how to achieve similar results, showing that with the right mindset and approach, anyone can build digital assets that generate significant income whilst providing the freedom to work from anywhere in the world.
